Osiris, son of the sky goddess Nut and brother to the god Seth (lord of the desert, Master of storms, Disorder and Warfare) was the king of Egypt and was a god of fertility and is said to be the inventor of hieroglyphs and bread. Later the envious Seth killed him, put him in a sarcophagus and threw it to the Nile. But Isis, consort of Osiris, managed to salvage him and by the powers that were gifted to her by the Ra, the Sun god, was able to revive him and conceive her sun Horus by him. But Osiris had to go back to the underworld for he was the first to die and thus now the king of the underworld. Seth found the corpse and this time he tore the corpse in to 14 pieces and flung them all over Egypt so that Osiris cannot be revived again. Later Horus accompanied by Anubis the illegitimate son of Osiris by Nephthys, the consort of Seth, succeeded in overthrowing Seth.
